Skills Gap 2: Character Modelling - Part 1

For the second week of skills gap I am going to model and sculpt a character in blender. I’ve also set myself the extension task of rigging and animating that model.
The character I’ll be modelling is Ciel Phantomhive, from the manga Black Butler:

This reference sheet is from the making of it's OVA, "Book of Murder."
I’ve got experience with blender, but I’ve never done something like this before. So, to help me out I’ll be using this series of videos by Bran Sculpts:

The first step is to “block out” the basic shape of the character. I am doing this with cubes that have Subdivision modifiers on them.


they are adjusted against the reference sheet, switching perspectives so that it matches on the front and side view.
This process is essentially repeated for the rest of the body.

So far I have finished this step and am on track to complete the sculpt on thursday. This is a task that I gave myself 2 weeks for. So hopefully I'd have completed the base model by the end of this week, so that I'll have plenty of time to do the clothes, hair and eventually rigging.
